Common questions
The birthday doesn’t show on my lock screen
iPhone: Live Activities may be turned off for Sticky Birthdays. Open iOS Settings › Sticky Birthdays and turn on Live Activities. If they stay off, the app reminds you with the notification and the widget instead.
A Live Activity ends at midnight. The next day, the birthday comes back as “was yesterday” if “Show again the next day” is on in the app’s Settings › Reminders.
Android: the birthday stays as the ongoing “Birthday card” notification. Check that notifications and the Birthday card category are allowed for Sticky Birthdays in Android settings. If you swipe the card away, it comes back at the next reminder until you tap Done.
I don’t get any notifications
iPhone: open iOS Settings › Notifications › Sticky Birthdays and allow notifications. Tip: set the Banner Style to Persistent there, so the notification stays on screen until you act on it.
Android: allow notifications for Sticky Birthdays in Android settings. If reminders don’t pop up on screen, choose the Birthday reminders category there and turn on Pop on screen.
The app’s Settings › Reminders shows a hint while notifications are off.
Reminders arrive late on Android
Sticky Birthdays doesn’t use exact alarms, so Android may deliver a reminder a few minutes late. If reminders arrive much later or not at all, a battery saver is holding the app back: in the app, open Settings › Reminders › Open battery settings and allow unrestricted battery use.
A birthday from my calendar is missing
Sticky Birthdays looks for yearly, all-day events whose title reads like a birthday, such as “Anna’s birthday” or “Geburtstag Anna”, in the calendars you selected. Check the app’s Settings › Calendars › Calendars, especially for shared calendars.
iPhone: birthdays in the iOS “Birthdays” calendar come from your contacts: turn on contacts in the app to get them.
Android: Google’s contact birthday calendar is skipped, because those birthdays come from your contacts. In the app, open Settings › Contacts › Link contacts to get them.
Android: if your Google calendars don’t appear at all, the Google Calendar app may not share them with other apps. In the Google Calendar app’s settings, turn on “Share Google Calendar data with other apps”. The app shows this as “Google calendars not visible”.
A birthday you deleted from its calendar in the app can be brought back under Settings › Calendars › Recently deleted.
Events with only a name as the title are not detected yet. Add those birthdays by hand with the + button.
How do I delete all my data?
In the app, open Settings › Delete all data (on Android under Settings › Data). This deletes every birthday, portrait, setting and reminder on your phone, and on iPhone disconnects Google. Your calendars and contacts stay untouched, including birthdays the app added to a calendar. Deleting the app has the same effect. A copy may remain in your phone’s backup until the next backup replaces it.
How do I disconnect Google? (iPhone)
In the app, open Settings › Google Calendar directly › Disconnect. Birthdays from Google are removed from the app; nothing is deleted in Google Calendar. You can also remove the access in your Google Account under Security › Third-party connections. The Android app has no Google sign-in to disconnect.
